Alderley Park – 174 for 7

Pott Shrigley 145 for 8

Pott Shrigley hung on for a well deserved draw away at Alderley Park on a Saturday. On a baking hot day, Shrigley were asked to field first with Alderley Park openers Farmer and Rahi putting on 70 for the first wicket. As the pitch begun to crumble Matt Jackson was able to extrapolate some turn and combined well with wicket keeper Jamie Hart to remove both openers caught behind. Rick Mattock had Prime lbw and Alderley Park were 99 for 3 after 26 overs. Jackson and Mattock continued to bowl well, and supported by further stumpings from Hart and a sensational run out by Tom Mannion restricted Park to 174 for 7 from their 45 overs. Jackson ended with 4 for 58, Mattock with 2 for 74 and Hart with a record six dismissals behind the sticks.
On a small and quick ground Shrigley had every hope of reaching the target. They were however quickly reduced to 9 for 2 and 48 for 4 to put the chance of victory firmly in the hands of Alderley Park. A partnership between skipper Hart (22) and all rounder Mattock (57) gave Shrigley a sniff of victory. Three quick wickets however meant Jackson and Andy Farrer had to block out the final eight overs to ensure a draw, closing on 145 for 8.
Many thanks to Sandra Arnold for sponsoring the match ball in memory of Keith.

3rd July

Disley 161-9

Pott Shrigley 162-6

Shrigley entertained Disley for the first time in the League and Disley, on winning the toss, elected to bat. Hough and Scarsbrook bowled aggressively in the opening spell and both took an early wicket. Disley recovered well to reach 114-2. Rick Mattock then removed both batsmen as they looked well set for big scores. A tight spell from Beard kept Disley to 161-9 off 45 overs.

Barlow went early but Hart and Hough took the sting out of the attack. Hough went for a well made 49. Later, Hart was out to a great catch for a superb 94. Dawson and Fitter then saw Shrigley through to victory.

17th July

Sandbach 166-5 Pott Shrigley 110

This was another poor batting performance by Shrigley who expected to perform better against a side second to bottom in the league table. A decent bowling attack restricted Sandbach to a moderate 166-5 but poor batting saw Pott fall 57 short of this total.

24th July

Pott Shrigley suffered a seven wicket defeat at Wirral, being bowled out for a disappointing low score of 87. Wirral then knocked of the required 88 for the loss of three wickets. Shrigley need to turn things around quickly.

Solid Shrigley in victory over Castrol

Castrol – 173 for 7 (45 overs)
Pott Shrigley – 176 for 5 (45 overs)

Pott Shrigley made a good start to the new season with a solid victory against Castrol. Having won the toss Castrol surprisingly elected to bat on a green track. Shrigley’s bowlers made a good start with Alex Jackson, supported by a superb stumping by Dominic Lisle, and debutant Alistair Baker-Brian taking an early wicket each. Matt Jackson (2 for 44) and Rick Mattock (3 for 33) bowled well and supported by some sharp fielding restricted Castrol to 173 for 7 in their 45 overs. It was a good effort by all the bowlers and fielders on a bitterly cold day.

The Pott Shrigley reply was dominated by a captains innings of 80 not out from Jamie Hart. After a steady start, Hart dominated the Castrol bowling to see Shrigley home with 3 overs remaining. Hart was well supported by Andy Hart (20) and Steve Barlow (24) and a confident knock from Ryan Fitter at the end.

It was a good start to the season and Shrigley travel to Old Parkonians next Saturday hopeful of another victory.
